is this everyones opinion on hollow point powerbelts? last thing i wanna do is shoot something and wound it. i figured the hollow points would do some damage, but sounds like they dont even make it through the animal. i dont worry about that with slugs, buckshot, or my m1903. again, thanks for the info ya'll!

My opinion is don't use the ballistic tip.
Use the hollow point only.

I have punched holes larger than a golf ball through a 102 lb boar. I have liquefied the internal organs of a 116 lb doe. I have dropped hogs deer on the spot with the hollow points. This is not the case for the ballistic tip. With those i shot a 6 point through the neck shot right through there lung shoulders they have all ran away. I found the buck and shot it again. Still had to chase it down and cut it through. A perfect 1/2 inch hole through the neck bone exposing the spinal cord still able to run?

Thanks TerribleTed that will save me some time and money as the hollow points are all I plan on shooting.

I know I'm late jumping in here but I just wanted to ditto what everyone said. From my experience the hollow point is the only way to go. I started black powder hunting about 4 years ago and now my CVA Buckhorn inline is all I use. I've killed 3 doe and 1 spike all with one shot through the neck. The only one that even moved anywhere but straight down was the buck. He jumped up about 4ft in the air and dropped straight down. Never had to trail any of these.

On the other hand I shot a big doe in Alabama one year and had to trail her blood about the span of two acres through the woods until I found her down under a tree. Had to finish her off. That was with a Remington .243

In my opinion a well placed .50 cal hollow point with 100gr of Pyrodex Pellets is plenty for any deer or hog. I use the Knight 260gr Sabots and the Hornady 230gr XTP sabots.

I've been shooting with 100 gr of American pioneer sticks and loose powder and it is the cleanest i've used i shoot 6 or 7 shots before cleaning and still hold 1/2 inch groups at 100 yrds, there was a advertizement from Jim Schocky that the guy shot 1000 rounds without cleaning.. I feel he is one of the best in Muzzle loader hunter ....
