Does anyone else on here use real black powder in leiu of the fake stuff?
I've still got about a pound and a half left from a bulk purchase many years ago (at $6.99lb, IIRC) but I haven't been able to find a reliable and reasonably priced source since moving to FL.
I'm "down south" in Broward county. Anyone have any suggestions (FFFg or FFg)?
Edit: I don't expect $6.99/lb these days either, but $12-$14 seems reasonable depending on the powder.
I pay $13.30 a Lb but that is buying in bulk, from Jacks powder keg. If you buy local by the pound you can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $20 per lb. That is for Goex, they offer what they call Jacks battle powder a little cheaper, but i know nothing about it. Of course Swiss will cost about $4 more per lb if you can find it. Try your local Bass Pro Shop, but be warned you have to ask for it, Fed regulations will not let them put it on the shelves. Then again most of the idiots that work there don't know what it is, Be sure to ask the manager!
Hope this helps!!
P.S.
By you asking for real black powder instead of the BS synthetic crap, I must ask, Do you shoot a flintlock?
I've got a modern inline that I run 209 and sabots through, and I've got a percussion cap 3-band enfield (replica) that I shoot BP & .577" minie balls through.
I don't shoot BP NEARLY as much as I used to (used to run with NSSA as well as Longstreets Corps, 47th VA, Co. I) so 25lbs would last me probably the rest of my life these days. I really only need maybe 2 or 3lbs to be very well stocked for the forseeable future.
I haven't been able to find a local source for percussion caps either, but I still have 100 or 200 of them left (the RWS musket caps).
