Didn't mean to get off on a tangent about bullets, 30-06...but the wife and I just rode thru Tide Swamp and saw a TON of hog sign. Only the main road to the boat ramp, and the main road going North are open, but lots of rooting
Key to them is keeping them clean(and dry)
I shoot (2) 777 pellets and a 250gr T/C Shockwave in both my guns
I shoot the same combo out of my wolf and it is a tack driver, great gun for the price
x3 I shot the same combo out of my Wolf and it was deadly. When I first got my Wolf I shot a 4pt with the Powerbelts around 35 yds and the bullet went through one shoulder and didn't pass through the other. I knew I hit the deer decent but couldn't find but a few drops of blood and nothing else. I looked for an hour and then gave up. Luckily, the buck had run back toward my truck and I found him on my walk-in trail. He only bled 5-10 yds before he fell... I love the shockwaves though.
thanks for the info on the shockwaves, i will definitely look into them, i do not want to loose game. Kortsman, i hike upperhills all the time, and see hogs and deer nearly everytime i go. you gotta really cover ground in there to find the hogs, this time of year they are easy to find because the heat, just find water.
Iluv2hunt i would love to get up to tide swamp sometime, i also found a few other places that offer no quota ml seasons, but hear differing opinions on game and # of people running around. i believe most wmas are pretty full of animals, they just wise up around hunting seasons somehow.
Lower Suwannee is a no quota. I hunted it for the first time 2 seasons ago, and definately saw some potential. As far as bullet choice. I will never use powerbelts again. I really like Hornady XTP. I shot a buck at 175yds using the Hornady with 100 grains of Pyrodex pellets the year before. It was in really tall brush, and was worried about finding exactly where the buck was standing. It was not a problem The blood trail was like someone spray painted the woods red. I shoot a CVA Optima.
