depends the side locks and flint locks if you shoot real black powder just push no kick it burns slower than say pro or trip seven. inlines with the newer propellents like trip 7 burn faster and hotter and will produce a kick like a regular cartridge gun, but it also depends on what charge you shoot and bullet size the heavier the bullet the more harder it kicks back at you while tryin to push it out. my gun 90 gr of blackhorn 209 and a 300gr bullet i feel no recoil but that might just be me my 308 kicks way more that that load in my muzzleloader.

Hunting with muzzleloaders is awesome. Cant wait for the Citrus muzzleload hunt in December
