I need to get down there and try that once. So is that farther than Ochechobee?
You need to get down past the southeast end of Big O, and for the big ones south of Alligator Alley. I'm gonna do some planning to get down that way in the next 4-6 weeks. Probably just drive on down to see DONY1 and let him point out where to go.
Yep. You can get their by goin across Alligator Alley to the east, and then go north on the Sawgrass to the Turnpike, and then north to to Glades road or just take the surface streets. Either way, the canal I used to fish a lot ran North/South just west of the turnpike. A small boat/canoe is all ya need to get just about anywhere for peacocks. They seem to like the canal junctions and bends in the canals. Guess if funnels the baitfish and such.
How long have they been in Fl?
At least 20 years. Probably longer. Some largemouth sport fisherman introduced them as an alternative. Now, they are an invasive species. They grow faster than large mouth bass, and are twice as aggressive.
I'll start checking around for some of the best spots in town to hit em good.
