Hey a neighbor of mine is down for a few weeks and he wants to got fishing close to where he lives. He is close to the villages and leesburg and has doesnt have 4 wheel drive truck so he cant into the forest like lake mary. Im looking for some lakes where he can bring some shiners and minnows and just have a good day fishing. Im a saltwater guy so I dont really know where the bass lakes are. I know wildcat, orange, and half moon lake are suppose to be pretty decent. Does anyone know how to get to half moon lake or have an address for it. Also if anyone has a lake or pond that they know have good fishing let me know. He has a 16' bass tracker so he can go alot of places. Just trying to help another fisherman out. Thanks in Advance.
Trying to find a bass lake in that area is about as hard as finding a :arabia driving a cab in New York City! LOL
Lake Weir, Lake Griffin, Lake Yale, Lake Eustis, Lake Harris, Lake Dora, Lake Okahumpka and probably a hundred small lakes in that area should all have bass in them. I'd ask around the local bait houses and check the local paper for fishing reports. I'd think topwater early in the morning around the edges or lily-pads, maybe some buzz-baits or spinners. Once the sun is up good and thinks start to warm, switch to crankbaits or swimming soft baits along grass lines and drop offs. It's been probably 25-30 years since I bass fished up that way so maybe I'm wrong, but my bro-in-law is from around Leesburg and his mom lives on one of those big lakes, and he says they catch bass all the time.
nice ramp at Lake Harris- off sr19-howey in the hills. actually 2 lakes access from 1 ramp.
half moon is east on hwy40 from ocala, past silver springs , over the river ,past lynn, past winndixie wwhen you see a lake on both sides of the highway and enter the real ocala forrest(sand pines)first road on right turn right off hwy 40 onto forest rd 05 go about 1 mile when road forks take right and another 1/2 mile and you are there. landing is very sandy and unimproved. you have to pay to launch. 4 dollars i think i have not been there in 4 years. hope this helps
thanks for the help. Trying to head out to half moon lake this week. He found a boat ramp in the villages at lake miona and he wants to try it out so Ill let yall how it goes.
