Shiners are a BLAST. Farm shiners suck, wild shiners work much better. I've always used baitcasters.Garcia's mainly also have a Penn International.

Wild shiners rock! All you need to catch em is a few hair hooks (long shaft) and dough balls. Find a dock on one of the natural lakes, not one of them man-made lakes/ponds, and go out to the deepest part that the dock will reach that has a grassline. Little bobber and a few beers, and you can catch plenty. You will need a cooler with an aerator though, cus they don't like it when the water gets warmer than the lake water.

i sometimes have luck catching freshwater shiners with a sabiki rig. i have dropped down near the weeds in gilley creek off lake manatee and caught plenty of shiners, sometimes the bluegill will hit them too.

my father in law buys storage units that are full from people that havent paid for the storage an he has about 80 give or take fishing poles Ive been trying to look though them but theres just to many alot of rods an reels the cave men used lol. But I did happen to find a abu garcia ambassador an acouple ugly sticks. I think the abu garica caster needs to be lubed doesnt really have a good throwing distance,
