Good question. Take a lawyer with you, biologist says yes, fwc says no.... im honestly probably not going to go for just that reason.
Called the NWR number. Spoke with a lady asking her if you can kill bucks or just does. She said (voice did not sound too confident) that u must first kill a doe then once that is checked in you can kill a buck. When I asked what the bag limit is, I was told it is what state regulations state.
I can find nowhere in the NWR broshure or state regulations that state u must check in a doe first before you can kill a buck. After reading the broschure for about the 20th time I think I got it figured out. I think you have to follow the state regulations which are two antlered deer a day OR one antlerless and one antlered deer a day. Antlerless being deer does or bucks with no horns exceeding 5". Possesion limit is 4.
That is what I am going to go by, not sure if it's right. I don't see how they can pin you for shooting a buck first when there is nothing in writing that says you must check in a doe before you can hunt a buck.
I was in there on Saturday and jumped a big buck down gate 50, but was not able to take a shot. Might be interesting to take a walk down there. I also spoke with the GW and he confirmed that hunters have been taking a lot of deer down on that south end. Opening day a guy took a 10 point off gate 47.

I have never been out there, so I appreciate the help. Thanks!
To get to gates 43-50 you have to enter gate 10 off Hwy347 just south of main enterance.
