call fwc in ocala, they can give you the numbers from all the check stations. i live in the umatilla/altoona area and have hunted the forest for the last 27 years. there are plenty of deer and other game. the hunting is as good as you make it.
Renegade, I was just presented a double lot in Umatilla that shares a property line with the Forest. The problem was it appeared to back up to a SJWMD water reclamation project based upon aerial, it looked like all the trees were taken down for some reason.
My family has a camp on the silver springs side. Its pretty good hunting and weve never had any problems with people breaking in our cabin. our hunting has been pretty good there.
we took an 8 point a 4 point and a spike last year and we seen a lot of horns. it just all depends on were you hunt.
I still have an agent presenting me lots on the Ft McCoy side of the forest or down in Umatilla. I have been looking along the Silver Springs side personally. Right now I am focused on some land to the east of GreenSwamp in Clermont, might be a keeper.
