I second jbug about helping out. also u need another pair of eyes on your property. no respect for others if they think they can get away with it. I live in Ocala. I hunt the lake Delancy area. I camp in the Salt Springs campground when we bring the 30'. When we use the tent we stay at the Lake delancy campground on the east side-quieter. no 4 wheelers and no generators. (no showers either)
I appreciate the offers of help in getting set up. Anyone willing to put in the work is more than welcome at my campfire anytime. The beer is always cold & plentiful :toast and I have been known to cook up some mean bar-b-cue :chef in the smoker.
I have been pouring over the internet and MLS and have been finding lots in the $3k to $9k range, some with a power pole in the Salt Springs area. It does seem a little less crowded up there. Does that pricing sound about right? How is the hunting in that area? I am finding the same pricing down around Altoona as well. With pricing being equal, I just don't know enough about the area to zero in on a location.
salt springs-lake delancey has a few???bears. hunting is soso. pretty area though. seen bears last 4 years every trip out.
I would think (imo) that 3k for a lot with a pole is a good buy. Just me.
Like anyplace else, you'll have to do your footwork/homework when the time comes to finding a place to hunt. I will be doing the same thing this upcoming summer. The great thing about Ocala is, it is so big that if you find an area that fizzles out or doesn't work out, you can move on and find another pretty easy. I will be watching your progression on this very closely because I was kicking around this idea myself not long ago and would like to see how it pans out. Btw, if you don't mind hunting the dog hunt area, Altoona would be okay - just remember there is no blackpowder season in the dog hunt area.
Does anyone out there know of an info source that would give #'s for the amount of game taken out of the Ocala Forest and what section/area? Perhaps this info would point me in the right direction on which area to begin the search.
