Take a box of chicken, a cooler with drinks, load up the family and ride! MArk you some places you want to look at on the map and keep checking them out. The good part about the NF's is the fact that they are so easy to access for year round scouting.
We had a ton of fun just exploring. This may be a dumb question, but considering I am still somewhat of a novice, I am sure I will have loads of dumb questions...
Wouldn't the scent of chicken possibly frighten off some wildlife?
No more than the smell of your car or truck. I use the picnic days to just ride around and look at areas I'm not familiar with. Gets the family outside and away from the doggone TV and PC's. I'll go back later and explore the places I want to look at closer without the box of chicken...LOL!
ok i use to smoke and stick deer right under my stand in archery. Then at lunch time with my bud we grill everything burger steaks gator catfish you name we grilled it while hunting. We routinely shoot animal during lunch from pigs to deer. hell i shoot a 150lb hog sitting in camp at a picnic table drinking coffee with a fire going right in camp. So i don't thing the chicken will be a problem.
Camped at one of the hunter camp that are free in ocala and we had a pack of coyotes run thru it. camping and hunting is more fun don't make it to serious and have a fun time.
blackpowder is right about the walking. I have hunted Osceola and have shot hogs there. Both areas are good and they are large. get on the walking shoes and go.
Most folks in Osceola won't get off the roads very far. If you are willing to walk there are some super nice areas to hunt. Its really dry right now so you need to get deep in the swamps and ponds.
