So, all my life my hunting experience has been limited to shooting squirrel in the backyard and occasionally a dove hunt or even less occasionally a hog hunt.
I have been relying on friends with land.
My son is 13 and has been begging me to take him hunting. After a few failed attempts to find someone with property, I googled "cheap places to hunt" Low and behold I found out you can hunt WMAs for FREE minus the cost of a permit.
Wow... Why am I just now finding out about this? I have been hunting in Osceola a few times now. I have seen signs of deer and hog, but no luck yet. Anyone else know a good WMA within a couple of hours of Columbia County area? I might try Ocala this wednesday since I will be in the area.

I'd stick with Osceola. There's some really good hunting there but you just need to explore it. IT's BIG but there's plenty of hogs, deer, turkey, and squirrels.

It's closer to you than Ocala. Both of them are going to require lots of time to get to know well.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk......you'll find some nice places.

Take a box of chicken, a cooler with drinks, load up the family and ride! MArk you some places you want to look at on the map and keep checking them out. The good part about the NF's is the fact that they are so easy to access for year round scouting.
