Sorry, thought u were referring to racks. The north end of the state does produce deer over 200# on a regular basis. And there is a small portion in extreme North portion that runs into Bama that produces 300 pounders. But the locals don't brag about it too much. But yes, you are correct. We don't and will never have the body size of northern deer. Different sub species of whitetail. I have a Montana deer and three Florida deer on my fireplace. There is no comparison

Your talking about antlers

Not my bag of tea just thru out my last mount a month ago. I grew out of looking for antlers.
they do make an aiming point point just below them.

not sure if I ever ate venison shot in front of dogs. I was given some venison swiss steak from a generous forum member but I don't know the conditions of his hunt. I prepared it like a veal or chiken cutlet and it was delish. I have shot a few old grey bucks in the full rut that stank before they were skinned but cooked up fine, granted a little gamier than does but thats kinda like the diff between lamb and mutton. now I'm racking my brain trying to remember where I heard or read about the hormones affecting taste thing. we've all heard the "don't touch the tarsal gland controversey, I honestly don't know, so just leave em alone. am currently looking in my old outdoor life big game cookbook and am seeing severall recipes for old/tough deer: tough meat stew, bbq tough buck ribs, for a few. basicly they recomend cooking the tougher cuts with lower/moist heat like with stews and crock pots. I'm not against dog hunting in any way shape or form and my favorite hunting was with well trained puddle pointers for duck, geese, grouse, quail and pheasant.

The mounts dont mean anything. I love hunting especially hogs on the ground with my bow. Nothing like the adrenaline rush of sticking a charging hog at 5 feet dam how'd i get away from that one. Any deer with the bow is awesome. I love the chase the hunt even when i miss or dont even get the shot. I just dont see the need for any more restrictions threes already enough.
