I love this debate. I love killing a smart old big buck,I just think they are a special animal that have outsmarted all the hunters, not something to farmed and raised by not shooting them. It wouldn't be any fun if they were all big now would it?I was blessed with 3 Fl bucks last year, one big 8 and a small 8 that barely wieghed 90 lbs and a spike that wieghed well over 100lbs. Now whose to say what deer I should or should not have taken? I understand that this thread is about a WMA,but there's a lot of hunters who want to make this a state law for everywhere and limit the kill to two bucks.Once a law is made it's done, that's it. I could give two craps if my kids kill spikes or whatever, they will out grow it like I have. I personally passed up a lot of small bucks last year,I bet over 15. I don't need a law or anybody telling me what or what I can kill.
Lord, Ted and Skunk, ya'll make it sound like anything but a year old deer is trash and not fit for eating. I've eaten fawns and I've eaten old rutting bucks and quite honestly I wouldn't turn away a plate of either.
I believe it's the time of year when you kill a buck more than the age of the animal. The one's I have killed running does have been rank,I mean pure spunk no matter what I've tried. Other ones during bow season were like eating a doe.
the papers are bein drawn up an gona be circulated..we aint askn for much, just better quality deer to hunt..if we get in the thousands of signatures then somebody had got to listen to us...its definately worth the try right????
No reason to change large romp, and stomps to accomodate trophy hunters. Places like GS are few, and far between where you can hunt most of the season with out a permit. You need to have places like it so some youth, and people new to hunting can just have a shot at killing a deer. The current rules are just fine. Not to mention that place has numerous quality bucks on the property already just hunt harder, and your chance will come. They have already accommadated the trophy hunters on many smaller WMA's with the 3 on one side rule. Please do not try to force every inch of public land to be managed for antler hunters. They put these rules in to create places where guys have a better shot at killing a trophy, and most of them still can't kill 1. Why not just try to be a better, and more successful hunter.
if it came to a choice between the 2 I'd rather see a larger doe harvest than antler resrtiction, I think that would satisfy more people. S.A. those deer being chased by dogs are "rank" imo because they are in fight or flight mode and hormones are pumping thru them. take the same deer shoot it between the eye and ear when it has no idea it's being hunted and I bet it would taste better. as for you cooks/chefs all cuts are not =. like with a cow the whole animal aint filet mig, but you can cook shoulder differently so it comes out just as tender.
