Went out to Hunsader Farms east of Bradenton this morning and picked about 50 pounds of vine-ripe tomatoes! Cost me $2! They fields full of tomatoes and nobody to pick them, so they are selling them for $1 a bucket/box/bag. So tonight I'll start making some basic sauce, just removing the sking and seeds and cooking down the "meat", then freezing it. Will probably set aside a few pounds for eating raw or making salsa, but the bulk will become sauce or soup, or some other recipe I might find. These 'maters are better than any you'll buy at the supermarket for $3/lb, so it was worth about $15 in gas, 20 minutes of picking, and $2 to the farm!
Anybody got any tomato recipes to share?
Wish I had a dehydrator! Might have to go pick one up somewhere.
