For some reason, this is one of those comfort foods that I have never cooked. I tried it for the first time tonight, and think if either of my grandmothers were here today to taste it, they would approve(maybe criticize the method I used for the dumplins, though)

Recipe was quite simple, actually:

Fried 1/2 pack bacon, remove and drain bacon on paper towel, set aside

Sautee whole onion, garlic cloves, diced celery.
Dump all in crock pot when done.

Make a roux (if you don't know what a roux is,google it). Cook it to a medium state, and add chicken stock(I used homemade wild turkey stock).Need the big box of stock if using store bought. Bring up to temp, then add to crock pot
Add package of frozen veggies

In meantime, I had 4 thin chicken breasts I seasoned and baked real quick in the oven. Took them out and diced up...add to crock pot
let all simmer for about 2 hours.

Crank crock pot up to HI. Add 1/2 cup heavy cream and a big spoon full or two of sour cream, whisk in.

Get a tube of refrigerated biscuit dough(I used a tube of crescent rolls). Take out of tube, cut into bite sized pieces and dust in flour. Drop the dough pieces into the simmering stew. Needs to simmer about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally

This was out of sight. I topped with some of the crumbled bacon, diced hot peppers(Aji Limon, Jalapeno, and Chile de Arbol's), and shredded cheese

Just finished my 3rd bowl
