I love citrus woods. I really don't like the heavy smoke off of oak wood, or mesquite. Every time I trim any limbs off my grapefruit, orange, or tangerine tree I always save any decent sized limbs.
Had a huge juice orange tree at my sisters house(actually my house, shes renting) that up and died last year. I finally got around to cutting it down today. After all the dead brush limbs were disposed of, I was left with about 400 pounds of good seasoned wood. Its actually at the point where it is perfect for smoking. I will cut it into smaller chunks on my miter saw and store in some plastic bins to keep it from drying out any more. had I waited any longer to cut it down it would have been no good in another couple months
I had a whole stack of pecan wood set aside for the smoker that a certain someone thought would burn nicely in the fire place....
Been gone from Orange County for 38 yrs. and had not thought much about smoking with citrus wood as there ain't much available in Washinton County. We use oak and pecan in our smokehouse and also in a small yard grill with a fire box. Have a good supply stacked and seasoned, enough to make several batches of sausage this year. Treefarmer
just about all fruit wood is good, my fav is apple and hickory together 50/50
I have had great luck with Apple wood.
i agree citrus wood is great for smoking. i have a stack of tangerine wood, and it is great. i also like pecan it creates a dark bark on meat and the flavor is outstanding.
