Makes a great appetizer for parties
1lb snapper filets(can use really any fish or shellfish, shrimp and scallops are good)
Cube fillets into dime size pieces
Put fillets in tupperware bowl. Squeeze 4-6 fresh limes or lemons lemons over fillets. Seal tupperware bowl and put in fridge. Shake bowl every few minutes.
Let sit in juice for up to 3 hours. The citric acid "cooks" the fish
In separate container, dice up 2 roma tomatoes(de-seeded), 1 large avacado, 1 cucumber, 1/4 red onion, 1 stalk celery, any other fresh veggies you like
1 jalapeno-seeded and diced
Add 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1 tsp sea salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
When the fish has "coked" rinse in cold tapwater, then add to the veggie mix. put back in fridge to firm up. Serve in wine glasses with crackers
I have made this while fishing offshore. Make the veg mix and take it in the cooler, then do your fish fresh caught. Makes a very good appetizer. I got a batch going now
That's some good stuff! I do like the shrimp and scallops in mine, too. And a little bell pepper. I usually put the lemon and lime juice in a blender along with the jalapeno, maybe a little habenero, then pour that over the meat. Bit spicier, but nothing another beer or two won't handle!
thats similar to hawaian/japanese poke I make but with a few diff spices and seaweed
HBS.
i made some ceviche for my dad on his birthday this year, turned out great. its a good summertime dish.
