Last weekend Mid Aucilla...nada
Wednesday, Thursday Green Swamp...nada
Walked about a mile to get away from everybody...coming back during daylight down the power lines saw a monster gator in a water hole about the size of my truck, he's been eatn pigs.
Got back to Aucilla for a Friday morning hunt..at daylight I was on the most vocal birds I've ever heard. Worked him for about 45 minutes. Back and forth down in a swamp. I was set up in some pines. He went off once and I was afraid to blink but I could not find him. Tip of the day! If your using game ear muffs, make sure you got em adjusted (volume levels) right. I could have swore he was finally coming in off right...WRONG, almost dead left. At about 20 yrds he went airborne. Sounded like a huey taking off.
On the plus side, the home made calls worked. He seemed to really like the clucks from the scratchbox. Responded almost everytime I hit him with it.
I wear Walker's game ears religiously. And you are right, you gotta have the ears set equally or the direction will sound all skewed
My problem is bad hearing..more pronounced left side. So I gotta crank that side. Friday I messed up and had the right side turned up too much.
Keep at it. I will be going out there again next week. Yikes on the gator. I am sure that I prob walked right by him. Thats why I carry my 1911. Yikes.
