Well people who know me do know that im not a turkey hunter. But ive gotten interested i the past two years. This season im just practicing with my calls to see what works and what don't. Not expecting to call one in or see anything. My goal was to just get one to gobble back. Well ive learned that patience is the most important thing with turkey hunting. And ive learned when you think they stopped gobbling they might just be too close and walking in.
I was hog hunting last week and got bored cause i hit a pack of them with my truck that ran across the road and spooked them, so i knew they were in a different block on the lease. I pulled out the "Rebel Yelp" turkey calls and had turkeys gobbling all around me. Then it stopped after an hour. Dead silence. Oh well i got down and went home. NOW if i would of waited i would of got one!. I NEVER got a turkey on cam except for the day i was calling. Oh well next time ill sit longer.
and a nice one too!
Pic's. not coming up.
Yep one of the most deadly tactics for turkey hunting is once they shut up either sit tight or go try to find one thats talking but always slip back into the area where you were when he was gobbling. Most of the time with all that gobbling he will get hens pretty quick and then he will just strut and drum, but when he gets done with his hens and they leave him he will remember that other hen (you) that he heard earlier and head back that way to see if shes still around. If he starts gobbling on his own the chances of carrying him out over your shoulder have gone up drastically. Patience kills more turkeys than fancy calling anyday.
there!
