Hunted opening weekend in the wma that I had permit for, saturday had two birds would gobble every half hour or so sometimes when I called, or just out of the blue in the morning, but always stayed out of range more interested on feeding than gettin some tail. On sunday went to one of my other spots had three toms that stayed within 75yds gobblin the same way the others did on sat. There just not fired up yet. So now its just luck that one will feed within range. Gave it up at about 11:00. My permit is good till friday, so went back to work mon-wed and took off thur. and fri. Went back to the swamp I sat in on sat. Got in there a little later than I normally would And did not set up untill the tom gobbled from the roost,he was about 150yds, so I put on the mohican sneak and set up about 80yds. I let out some soft clucks and yelps on slate call, instant gobble. Set slate call down and from now on out its mouth call only and still as a rock. He did not come on fire, just slow and cautious takeing his time wanting sweetie pie to come to him. He was at 45yds and not comeing any closer, fed him a load of #4 shot, bird down at 7:50am! 9 1/2" 1 1/4" spurs with a nice hook to them. 16 1/2lbs.

I truly think the hunting is gonna get better in the next week or so. Based on what I saw and heard anyways
