My mounts are different. They look like this:

I cut the legs off at the joint and then remove the joint with my miter saw. It makes for a cleaner cut and no cracked bones. I use formaldehyde injected into the feet after removing the marrow. Then I curl the toes inward and pin them down to the position I want them on a foam board and let them dry for 2-3 weeks. After drying, I grind the top of the leg bone to shave it down and make it fit on the plaque.

The fan is cleaned and scraped as well as I can by hand, then wire wheeled to remove the rest of the meat and fat from the fan base. I then borax the bottom of the fan and pin it down on a rigid piece of cardboard, fanned out and taped down with good painter's masking tape. Last, I put something heavy on the fan base as it lays flat to keep it from doming up on me. It also takes a good 2-3 weeks to cure completely. Once dry, I use bondo on the base to keep it rigid and protect the fan from bugs and decay. It also gives you something to glue and screw through when mounting it on the plaque.

See the mounting instructions and diagram below for the plaque and assembly.
