This weekend was my turn to get one . Friday was a slow day at work so I took off early . Got to the WMA at 4:30pm , I still had plenty of time to find me a bird and see where he was going to roost. Walked a bit and saw lots of tracks . Found a good gobbler and 4 jakes making their way to a oak head . I watched them till they disappeared in the oaks . Well the old saying roosting ain't roasting , but we shall see . I though about that gobbler all night . Actually woke up several times and looked at the alarm . It was a long night . I was setup in my spot at 4:45am . The long wait and anticipation was killing me . Finally , daybreak was coming and the crows were sounding off but no gobbles . I was wondering where they were . Made some purrs and soft yelps and he gobbled twice . I was about 70 yards from him . I saw some birds flydown to my left , but I didn't see him . Few minutes passed by and then I saw him fly down and headed to some hens . I called a few times and he would look and not move . By now he was about 100 yards away . 3 of the jakes started moving in and he didn't like that . The jakes picked up the pace to the decoys and he followed quickly . Once he got to 35 yards I pulled the trigger , Thunderchicken down , didn't want anyone snaking me . I had another hunter about 200 yards behind me . He was on the ground and what a relief . 10-1/2" Beard , 19 lbs , 1" , and 1-1/2" Spurs

down4dacount, As usual.......Good Job! Good Story! Good Pictures! My wife is glad we don't have turkeys on our place or on our lease, she thinks I'd never get anything done if I got infected with thunder chicken fever. Treefarmer

congrats, nice bird. you are 1 well squared away hunter. wouldn't have expected anything else. and enjoy the stories that go with your kills & that you are not just looking for a pat on the back or to brag.
