Been wanting to learn to do my own pot calls for some time. I found a website that you can order all the pieces a la carte. Granted I know its not like turning your own, but I don't have a lathe or the tools to do it. Its pretty much putting the pieces together, more or less but the wood does come rough cut and unfinished, so you have to do all that
Here are all the pieces. This is going to be a "glass over glass" call
And the pieces roughly laid together
After some sanding and a couple coats of stain. I rigged the pot up on my cordless drill, so I could get it spinning for all the sanding. I used MinWax "natural" for the stain. It really brought out the natural color of the wood. Check out my custom drying rack!

For anyone that's done one before, what is the best way to "attach" a photo underneath the call surface. I have searched and searched and not found any info on how to place the picture. I am going to give this call to my boy. He didn't get to go on the youth hunt due to some family issues but hung with me quite a bit this weekend, and I got a good pic of him in camo. Saturday is his birthday and I am gonna surprise him with it as his first turkey call, since he is helping me with it. The call surface is blasted glass so not sure how well the picture will show anyway. If it won't I will probably write him a message on the back of the glass in sharpie that will show thru
i have also got one from an ebay seller, fun to do and you put it together yourself.the striker igot makes some of the best yelps andclucks ever.
nice diy project. I'm not sure if it MIGHT matter but think I'd be careful about getting anything like finish or glue on those strikers. my slate in plastic is sounding too deep, got rid of all my others with my old turkey vest. want to try new glass and ceramic but my fav is still a box call. afraid to use mouth calls as I might get excited and swallow/choke on it. had a gobbler sneak up behind me once, poke his head around the tree I was sitting against and gobble loudly into my left ear, scared the crap out of me, definitely would have swallowed a mouth call then. turkey hunting is one of the few times I prefer to go with a partner so he can watch behind you. what kinds of wood do they recommend?
