There is more than 1 way to cross that river. I won't be there, but if I was I would find a way!

Well, it was a learning experience this morning. I headed out to my first choice spot and there was someone else heading the same way. I thought about keeping on, but I figured we'd be too close. I decided to go to another spot that I've deer hunted that was just across the road.
I get to the spot and I decide not to build a blind since I don't know if any birds are roosting near by. I set my decoy down and sit against a cypress tree with some brush around it.

Well, 6:30 rolls around and the fog rolls in. I'm thinking now they're going to fly down later since it's a thick fog.

7:15 rolls around and I hear a gobble to my left in the cypress head. He gobbles 4 or 5 more times between 7:15 and 8:30 and then goes quiet. I only do a few soft yelps during that time and don't get a response.

Suddenly out of nowhere I hear a gobble. I thought he went the other way. Instead of yelping, I stuck to clucks and purrs. (Thanks for that advice) As I'm clucking and purring, he's cutting me off with gobbles. Closer and closer he comes.
Then I hear a few yelps… I think he started to turn, but he didn't. He couldn't help himself when he heard those sweet sounds. He was thinking he was gonna get lucky. I keep calling and he keeps cutting me off.

I finally see him and get my gun ready. As he's walking in, he spots my decoy and stops. He's about 15 yards from me behind some brush and trees. He's looking around scanning the area and spots me.

I'm frozen still, but I think he can see my heart pounding. He takes a few steps backwards and then turns around. He knows something's not right and starts to high tail it outta there. I raise my gun and shoot.

Didn’t even scratch him. Off he runs into the woods back the way he came from. And there I sit feeling like crap…

Now here’s the question. Do you think he's outta the area or is there a chance he'll roost in the same area?

I built a blind with the hopes of him coming back, but I'm not so sure… What do you think?
