I have done some research on this liability issue because of the new hunting lease I put together out near the Greenswamp. FL is messed up when it comes to private land and liability. The lawayers have really gotten a hold of our legal system here. For example, GA has passed a statewide law the removes liability for private landowners who allow hunting unless there is a case of gross negligence, which is very hard to prove. FL has done no such thing. The land owner is liable for whatever happens, even if its an idiot who shoots himself. And in cases where there is a legal recorded access easement to travel through one piece to get to another piece, the owner of the land that has the easment is liable for what happens to you when traveling over his pasture. In my case I did prepare a blanket access and release of liability agreement that I signed with the land owner who controlled the easement to give them piece of mind.

So glad I found this site. Very helpful info. Looking forward to any additional updates.

I agree there should be some waver that I could sign so that land owner would feel comfortable allowing me to hunt without risk of liability. If it is a matter of payment I would be willing to figure something out but I have not had conversation get that far even.

Last night I started looking for Lease or hunt club around the area. Anyone know where a good place to look for local listings? I tried the high tech redneck and that had a few listings. I plan to keep looking at Woods and Water mag. I'd love to find a lease with lotta hogs that could hunt year round that allows camping.

M12Gunboy - I've heard that there is good hog hunting around Orlando Airport if you can get landowner approval. I have not started looking yet. I'd love to know if you find anything.

If you're fortunate enough to find a landowner who'll give you permission to hunt, at the least you should use the Florida Courtesy Card found at http://myfwc.com/media/1299347/HuntingPermissioncard.pdf to protect both parties.

GoodOyster - thanks for that link. Hopefully I will get to use that Courtesy Card. 😉
