and you could hunt those whitetails year round in Ohio? didn't think so.

Same thing with hogs on public land here (WMA's). They have seasons....

On private property you can hunt hogs year round....no bag limit, no seasons.

Do they have hogs in Ohio? Can you hunt them year round on public land there? didn't think so. Not sure why you thought it would be different anywhere else.

Well when you read article after article and see news reports about how hogs are overrunning the start and destroying millions of dollars of farmers crops, seemed like a relative no brainer to me. I even talked to people down here before coming and they said no problem, hogs all over the place, their pests like big mean rats. Farmers don't mind if you come and kill them off their land. Then I get here and find that to hunt you have to be in a lease and pay a car payment each month for the pleasure of using the land to hunt vermin that is destroying his farm. Something about that doesn't sit too well with me. I've been here 2 years looking for land to hunt without success, but have since found the reason. The same thing that's going on here is happening in Texas and Iowa and Kansas. Pretty soon all of you that tout your $1000 leases will be bought out by $5000 leases and you'll be sitting where I am wondering what the hell happened to my prized hog hunting spot. Well richer hog "hunter" snapped it up from you. Too bad. Might not be next year, or the year after, but it'll happen.

I guess as long as you have the full pockets is ALL ACCESS isn't it? If you want to compare hunting opportunities here and back in Ohio, that is a battle YOU WILL LOSE! So I'd steer clear of it and keep your talking points on Florida.

It's just sad that this state that complains so loud about the infestation of hogs and the millions of dollars of damage they do then turn around and wants to you pay for the privilege to hunt them on private land. You all keep on spending that cash to hunt while being oblivious to the damage you are doing to the future of hunting. It's fun for ya now, but how's it gonna be when your son wants to go hunting 10 years from now and says "Dad I'd like to go hunting, but I can't spend a spare HOUSE PAYMENT each month to do it. I'lll just put in a Hog Hunting Video game and we can play that instead, it's really cool.

I guess if you look hard enough and deep enough you'll find GREED at the root of damn near every problem we face, including this one. To be honest, not only would I NOT and NEVER WOULD pay $3000 to hunt PIGS, but I wouldn't do it if they came and got me in a HUMMER limousine with a brand new bow sitting in the back for me and said it was "on the house." I guess I just have standards.

Talk to people in Texas and see what it's like for a man wanting to take his son out to teach him bowhunting during deer season, it damn near can't be done without a pocket full of money. That's what you got steaming right at you here in Florida and you don't even see it.

I'll stick to shooting at foam targets and not worry about making a car payment each month. You all have at it. Maybe I can find you a lead on a $10,000 lease that promises to have the finest and healthiest hog population in the southern USA. Guaranteed 3 inch cutters on every hog taken, no such thing as meat hogs, they're all trophies at this place. I think it's owned by Jackie Bushman so you should fit right in.

Have a good one chasing those $3000 piggies.....

As a matter of fact there are isolated populations of hogs in Ohio and yes you can hunt them on private land by any means, no bag limits and no seasons. They want them GONE from the state. Check on your info before you post.

I don't know anyone who pays that much to hunt hogs, you pay for year round access to private property to hunt anything.I turn down chances to hunt hogs all the time for free.As far as that hype you see on t.v. that's all it is. It filling ignorant people with false information. These stupid hogzilla shows are exactly why my dog was shot and killed last week. My dumb azz YANKEE nieghbor shot and killed my prized hound dog ,he actually told me he thought she was a "WILD BOAR". And if you think hunting is expenive here check out what they're paying in MO and IL to shoot one buck They're running up the price to a point where the locals can't hunt unless they own a farm. BTW,how many days do you get to deer hunt with a gun in Ohio? I understand where yourcoming from to a point but fuel prices are whats going to bring an end to hunting for me. I bet you voted for Obama to didn't you? Those who voted for that chump are the ones ruining hunting for everybody.

You have your facts wrong.

First off you specifically asked about private land.

There is TONS of public land in Florida. It is free, but it does have seasons. All it costs you is your hunting license, and going thru the quota system. Surprised you haven't researched that in 2 years of being in FL.
Sure the PL(public land) here cannot be compared to PL in the midwest. I don't hunt PL much anymore, but had ZERO problems killing deer and hogs every year off of it
Back to leases...you are acting like it is for hogs only.
I pay $1000/yr to hunt 6000 acres, with only 16 people on it. I do not make a lot of money a year. For your info, I own a 1-man operation pest control business. I literally put away $20 here, $10 there all year to be able to afford my lease. Its not like I can stroke a check whenever I want to
With my lease, I can hunt deer and hogs all season, plus turkey season. I can go out there in the summer and ride atv's with my family. I can take guests any time for no additional fees. I can fish the pond an time I want. I can shoot my rifle any time I want at the sand pit. I CAN HUNT HOGS 365 DAYS A YEAR.
You can't do those things on PL. Hell, its turkey season right now and I killed a hog yesterday afternoon, just because I wanted to

Don't believe everything you see on TV. The liberal media blows things out of proportion. If you watch that stupid show on Discovery channel, they have them made out to be 700# savage beasts that will destroy anybody and everything in their path. Sure they are destructive. Sure they reproduce quickly. But its no where they make it out to be. Trust me, I've killed more hogs in my life than most folks have ever seen.

You are correct, hunting has become a rich mans sport. However, I always thought it was the PETA idiots that would shut us down. Right now its the oil companies that are doing it for them. It costs me almost $200 a weekend to drive 3 hours up to my lease and hunt

You are correct on one thing, there are TONS of privately owned land that are in need of hog control. Cattle ranches, subdvisions, etc...
A good friend of mine has a cattle ranch in Myakka with the hog rights, a guy on here has a dairy farm in Brooksville with the hog rights, another guy on here has a subd. he can deer hunt in. A very good friend of mine traps hogs in and around Tampa for completely FREE, I had a subd I could trap, deer and hog hunt.

I think these are the type of places you are looking at, or for. They are not hard to get. I could get another one, but don't have time. All it takes is talking to people NICELY, offer to help them out with their property, etc. You might want to evaluate how you talk to people, this aint Ohio. Hell, ask me nicely and I might even take you
GO NOLES!!!
