Hi

I'm getting ready for my first hog hunt. What size cooler would I need for a quartered hog?

Will a 100-quart Igloo cooler be sufficient?

I have a 120qt that is my 'meat cooler". You want to make sure you have enough room for meat and ice. If the cooler is too crowded with meat, and you can't get enough ice to 'layer" it, you will get spoilage in the cooler....especially this time of year

A 100qt is plenty sufficient

Yes. I have two go to one of those ice huts and fill both to the top. With the melting ice you should have
enough ice for a few dayys and keep coolers in the shade. Unless you have one of those Yetis. The reason I take two
is you can move the ice from one to the other when your packing your meat, you don't loose any ice and you can keep it clean.
Just my Two Cents.

Wow. Quick answer!

Thanks a lot. I will be picking one up at Sports Authority later today.

@iluv2hunt: BTW I really like the hog skull you showed on this forum earlier. I have an appointment with RUT N' STRUT N' Taxidermy after the hunt Monday. I'm going for the skull mount too.

@dave: Are your 2 coolers 100 quarts each?

I have a huge Green Igloo, I think it's like a 180 QT and ditto to what davedirt and iluv2hunt had to say. If you are going to buy one, bigger is always better IMHO. Never know, you might shoot two hogs.
