go to autozone and rent a fuel pressure tester, do a leak down and a ignition pressure test and compare to your factory specs

If the truck loses gas pressure the truck will shut down. Just changed my gas pump.

fuel pump sounds like a a cheaper route out but would it just shut off like all power was killed??? I just don't want to sink a butt load of money into something that I don't even know for sure that it is the issue. Question? wouldn't the fuel pump show a codewhen it was put on the computer?

My experiences with electric fuel pumps is that they either work or don't. Meaning that when it quits, it's dead. It's normally not an intermittent problem. I've replaced 3 on the lifted van (Chevy) I used to have, one on my wife's old Chevy van, and one on a Land Rover I used to have. All three would crank and everything the battery would work was working but the fuel pump.

You can usually hear a whirring sound from the pump when you turn the key right before start-up that primes the fuel system. And no, I didn't get any codes or lights indicating the pump was the culprit.

Still sounds like a short to me somewhere or a component in the electrical system that gets hot and quits working.

My wife has a jeep grand Cherokee that was doing the same thing. It was a crank position sensor but they are well known for that issue.

What motor was in the Cherokee? Those are made by Chrysler nowadays. Could be the same set up.
