certainly food and water sources should not be ignored but tracks, beds, rubs, scrapes, travel paths and camera pics are positive evidence of their being there, times/places where they can use all there senses to the fullest, hearing/vision/smell and safe areas thick cover are things I started to key in more on than moon phases.

I considered keeping a log, documenting time of day, moon phase, temp. animal sightings ect. Then I realized It really didn't matter, and was a waste of time for me. I hunt when I can find the time not when it is peak time to hunt. If I am on a hunt I spend as much time in the stand as I can take. Usually My hunts are regulated by WMA quotas so they dictate when I am in the woods. The exception would be I do tend to do several 1 day hunts in places like Green Swamp right after a cold front passes in this case mother nature dictates when to hunt not a log book.

I never cared about using it for hunting it was just a log of time and experiences.

I would like to start one possibly this year. I can normally remember several years back of overall average sightings per stand/bucks killed per stand but nothing too detailed.

I just log areas where I think I might see some game or see deer sign and good habitat/trees/food and go from their and how much human traffic there is. That way if my area is taking some pressure maybe I can go somewhere else.
