Maybe they made a poor shot and didn't find it until the meat was soured? Maybe not.

Last year on an archery quota I came across that exact scenario. It was a Saturday through Tuesday hunt and the guy shot it on Saturday afternoon and didn't find the deer until late Tuesday evening. We smelled the rotting flesh about 100 yards away from the parking lot, and saw the horns sticking out of the garbage bag. It's a shame how it went down because it was truly a south florida trophy.

They are not horns they are Antlers

Really a waste of everything....the antlers could have been mounted various ways, including a full shoulder mount using a fresh cape either from another deer harvested by the same hunter, or a cape provided by a taxidermist. Its a little unpleasant but you can skull cap one in a few minutes if you really want the rack.....then you can clean it up and have it mounted later, when you get the other cape.....just my opinion, but I really hate seeing any deer wasted.....
