That's funny,I collected king snakes when I was a kid. Had lots of them. I've caught a few in Gorge also.Never seen a speckled king though. Now I have coachwhips all over my place here, see them all the time. We had a pair that lived right behind the barn, they are a nasty breed. Another snake that eludes me is an indigo, can't remember ever actually seeing one,my wife seen one curled up on our back porch when I was at the woods once, but I'm never lucky enough.
I caught a HUGE Indigo when I was a teenager in what is now Tampa Palms. It was over 7'
Back when I was a kid, my dad and I would catch n sell anything for a $$. That was back before you needed a license to fart in the woods.
We used to start after hunting season in Citrus WMA and catch flying squirrels. we would catch 2-300 a weekend, and ship them to south Florida to a dealer down there. We got like $3 a piece
Then we would float the Hills. river and catch snakes, and sell them to a Herpatologist in Miami. I cannot tell you how many cotton mouth's I have caught. Anyone that says they are not aggressive snake is truly misinformed. I was damn lucky to never get bit
fishing or swimming near shore in albermarle sound in N.C. the cottonmouths would swim towards you , not shy or timid at all. nutria can be nasty also.
the only copperhead i have ever seen in my life was in NC. have seen two indigos. one was in highlands hammock the other in i think myakka state park
