Im on sevistatin for my cholesterol. IT was high.. now the doc says im a skinny guy in a fat body.
Got to get back on track for the kid, get yourself healthy. I went in 4 years ago and all my #'s were bad except for blood pressure. I refused to go on medication so I tried the natural route, fish oil - Garlic- Red Yeast Rice & Vitamins. Started working out and exercising off and on and eating right. I did not want to have to take medication for the rest of my life like my grandmother. After 4 years I am sad to report that my cholesterol will not come down, my blood pressure is perfect, I am fit and have eaten better in the last 4 years than I have my entire life. My doctor told me sometimes its genetics and there is nothing you can do about it. I finally gave in and have been on medicine now for 2 weeks, I have a check up in another 4 weeks to see how everyting is working. All I could think about is being around for my boy later in life. I hope this does it.
I read that the phramecutical companies complained so much that the makers of the Red Yeast Rice had to change their formula. Now it doesn't work for cholesterol like it used to. Supposedly, one of the good things out there now is the Mega Red Krill Oil. It's supposed to be better than the Fish Oils. I've developed a mild reaction to shrimp so I'm scared to take the Krill Oil. Krill=little shrimp.
Something to keep in mind when trying to go the natural route.
Been taking mega red for a few weeks. Obviously it didn't work on its own. One side effect I noticed is it gives you bad gas. I mean awful. My wife made me start taking it in the morning instead of at night..I mean the dog would leave the room after I farted
The Red Yeast made me space out during the day at work, I understand it uses the same active ingredient found in alot of the cholesterol medications which I was worried about when I started taking my new meds. Thats why I take mine with dinner, I am sleeping before anything can kick in. Both the fish oil and garlic would make me have a bad case of the burps, that is one terrible taste in the mouth the 2nd time around.
Here is a quick Google about Red Yeast Rice. I'm sure there are other studies out there, but this was the first one that popped up.

It basically says that the Big Pharm was mad about RYR doing the same thing their drugs did. They had the FDA make all manufactuers of RYR remove the active ingrediant. But, in the end, there was still some of the active ingrediant still present. Seems like it can't be completely removed. So it should still work to some extent, but not like it use to.
