I was doing 13-14 per mile at my best. I only did a mile or a little less every other day but I don't stick with it as it hurts my knees and ankles.

there are socks u can get to prevent blisters and such...regular cotton socks are terrible to sweat in

Honestly, a good running store is the best place to start. They'll get good shoes that fit you. They can look at your feet and your shoes and tell how you run. After, that you can go to a good place like Dicks or something. Good shoes for YOU will prevent many aches and pains.
$$ isnt always a good indicator of quality. I do not like the minimalist shoes so prevalent now because you reslly have tore-learn how to run for them...screw that.
