Hey i may need that, what is it called, saw palmento? I did not know that is how they made it...have taken it for years.
well damn, wish I know how to produce it i would never have to buy again with what is in my yard and lease.
The problems with collecting the saw palmetto berries is finding a large population of saw palmettos. They are normally found in thinned loblollys or other "saw" pines that are not maintained(i.e. sprayed) for timber production/pine strawing. Hence, they go to the public lands...
If you have pines on your property keep them sprayed and you don't have to worry.
I have them in my yard and all over the Pine forest my lease is in, what do you spray them with?

It's St. Joe land near SR 79 west of CR 388, right? They still have alot of loblollys over there and the saw palmettos are everywhere, I know. Some of those tracts are setup in the West Bay Area Sector Plan as mitigation tracts, hence no cutting or spraying. Prescribed fire/control burnings I think can be done under the agreement though even if they are setup in mitigation. See what your lease says before you spray something, there's alot of protected species in that area.
The herbicide most widely used around here was Chopper or Chopper II several years ago. It is a conifer specific herbicide and very potent. Sprayed aerially usually, it is fast and effective. Same active ingredient as Roundup (Isopropylamine salt ) but heavily concentrated.I also had a friend who had around 800 saw palmettos in his nursery at one time and killed every dang one of them.. i'll ask him what he used too haha
