Well, finally re-did the sleep study and confirmed I have severe sleep apnea. The dentist recommended I try the CPAP, because the dental devices can not give me enough relief. He scheduled me for a CPAP fitting session at Lakewood Ranch Hospital on Sep 7th where they will monitor me sleeping with a CPAP and adjust it to my needs. I may just go ahead and get a used machine and start trying it out. Guy at work did that back in April, started using one of his brother's old CPAP units, and he said it took about 2 nights to get used to it, but after that it was like a new life. He has lost over 50 pounds since April just from finally getting some decent rest. I'm all for that!

wherever you get a machine from it will have to be set at the pressure you need, and that needs to be done by a resp tech since there is no simple presure setting dial. each machine is different. look for one that has a heated water tank to keep your sinuses from drying out and that is not too noisy. res-med and fisher pakel make good ones. hopefully your insurance will cover it and they should be replaced app every 5 years as they can never be cleaned completely. also if going used (which I would never do, you don't know what the last guy had and am not sure it's legal to give out a used machine. the best of machines go for about 3-500$ new out of pocket, so don't let an insurance co make you have a 200$ co-pay forever. as a newbie try the nasal pillow route first they are the smallest, easiest to care for and least obstructive. I started with a fuller version and settled on the res-med mirage system. and insist on brand name replacement parts/tubes and head nets, they will be more comfortable and last longer. you and especialy your wife will notice an immediate improvement in sleep. good luck.
