Lantus is a basal insulin, so if you are already high, do not expect to come down quickly after injection. I am assuming you are type II, and I know doctors do not tell type IIs to test all that often. If I were type II, I would test just as often as I do now (5-8 a day) to get a good profile. You will also have to play around with a bit of exercise and see if that helps your numbers. Also, in many people, 24 hour insulins will only last about 20 hours. So, you may see your numbers creeping up towards injection time.
