I was supposed to graduate in May, but, I'm not going to be able to because there aren't enough organic chemistry lab classes, and they filled up before I was even permitted to register for them.....of course the athletes get to register a week before everyone else. (since USF sports teams are sooo good :rolleyes :oops ) You'd think graduating seniors would get priority for class registration....but my girlfriend whom won't graduate until December was able to register before I.

Thankfully, my house is leased through August, so I'll take the course over the summer and will be ready to GTFO of this place. I can almost smell the country air again.

I don't get it, they cite budget cuts and failing funds for the cut back on classes, but they are constantly starting new building projects, building new recreational fields, etc. There is always all sorts of stupid azz events going on everywhere on campus. I know of 4 other people who are graduating seniors and are getting stuck because this class isn't available.

Tuition has went up dramatically since I started in 2007...but teacher quality has went down. Teachers are mostly foreign and/ or have poor teaching training and horrible accents. Tuition cost me about $15-1800 a semester when I was a freshman, I am spending $25-2800 each semester now....and the product sucks even worse :censored

:taz And people want to give the government more responsibility..... :ban

although it's been a long time I've had the same problem, took 3 different registrations to get into anat and phys and was all I needed to grad, why don't they give a prefference point when denied a class and seniors should register first, not jocks, you know they are gonna pass if they show up or not. as a sr I needed organ chem and it was not gonna be offered in the summer, so the dept head taught me and I was the only one in the class, at least I didn't have to raise my hand to ask a ?, but painted his house as a return favor ( for reduced cost), got a B. took me 3 tries to pass gen chem, bow-ring!

My daughter had a similar problem , caused her to skip a year between sophomore and junior years. When she went to register for a couple of her classes she had to have, they said she owed money for a trip they took to Egypt over the summer that was supposed to be covered by a grant. The grant hadn't funded yet, so they wouldn't let her register until it did. By the time it went through, all her classes were filled. She goes to a private Christian university and her tuition is 2 to 3 times the state schools, so there was no sense in her taking other classes she didn't need. It has delayed her graduation, but it did allow her to work for the US Census for several months making decent money (she worked in their regional office, not out door-to-door). Now she's back in school and if she can take a couple of classes next summer she might be able to graduate next December.

You should go to that class the first day of class. The way it works at FSU is if a student who is registered for the class doesnt attend the first day of class then they are dropped from the class and that seat becomes available. You should also check blackboard the first day that class begins and see if any spots are open again. Does USF have an add/drop period? I wouldnt give up on it that easily when thats all you need to graduate.

We have the drop/add and the mandatory first day attendance, but you can't just show up and take an untaken seat. The professors/TAs drop the students who didn't attend at some point after the first class, you don't know when it'll be, and you have to sit there and hit refresh on your browser for 4-5 hours until it opens up and you can add it. Organic labs are very tough to come by here at USF. Maybe I'll get lucky, if not...summer lab courses typically don't fill up fast and I'll have priority for registration...
