Our group is nothing like the group you saw in the movie. Our group is strictly for research, teaching and learning. We DO NOT allow any fictional characters in our group. We are strict about that. You must portray someone who COULD have existed in the our period, however you cannot portray someone who DID exists. In other words you cannot be King Henry the VIII.

We learn and teach the better parts of the middle ages from aprox 1000 AD - 1650 AD.
I have learned and teach, brewing, and Bow/Arrow making as they did in period.

As for materials, we do the best we can to obtain and use the same things they would have used however, due to some items being costly or non-existant anymore we can and do substitute for modern materials.

Take the crossbow for instance. The roller nut would have been made from horn, true it can still be obtained, however I use a delrin (modern synthetic substitute) because it is stronger, and thus safer. Safety being very important for us as well.

For more info you can go to the main site at www.sca.org, we are not-for profit organization.

well whoever built that crossbow did a hell of a job. I can see what you mean about materials like sinew, bone, rawhide, copper, bronze, iron, leather, etc. I understand hemp was used a lot back then (not for smoking) but it could get you busted today.
