I am scared straight from what happened to me on Sunday. I had went to the woods that evening to retreive my last two treestands from the lease. One of the last ones was my 20' ladder and it was on the edge of an oak and cypress head. I climbed to the top and unstrapped it, and once I took the first step down it buckled right above the stablilzer bar above halfway up the stand. I rode that sucker down and jumped about 12' up before it crashed on me.
I landed on my butt and came within feet of several larger cypress knees impaling me. It nearly knocked me out and thank God I had a friend with me. It has really got me where I want to be a better husband and father and not concentrate as much on being selfish and running off to do my own hobbies. I haven't been much of a husband in the past few years and I nearly always choose myself over my wife and sometimes my daughter also.
I just wanted to tell yall this as I wanted to try and maybe make you think a little bit before you have to have a swift reminder that maybe you need to think about re-prioritizing your life.
Sorry to hear about your accident. Sounds like you had a come to Jesus moment. My brother in law had one buckle at the same spot when he was climbing up into it. It was still completely strapped. I have tried to make sure that I give the wife equal time away from home by herself to match my days in the woods. It's good for everyones sanity. I stay home with our son while shes gone but it is alot easier to bring them with me when I can. The only time she will not bring our son out is when the temps drop into the 30's and 40's.
Was you stand rusted? I do know the majority of todays stand are made in China, there steel is a much lesser grade than what we use here.Glad your ok,what do you think caused the collapse?
a perfect example of why you need a fall safety/restraint system from the time you leave the ground til your'e back down.glad your OK . I plan on taking it a lot more seriously this season.
Glad you are OK.
