I never thought I'd spend money on or want anything that wasn't strictly a sporting/hunting firearm either. but I changed my mind and they are alot of fun to shoot and then theres the nostalgia thing, still don't think I'd hunt with one though. a scoped bolt action, an open sighted lever, a shotgun with assorted barrels and stocks, 22 mag scoped rifle, a 22 pistol and large bore pistol ( 357, 44 mag,45 acp ) really does it all for me for hunting.

Absolutely,I'd love to have a full auto and go to some machine gun shoots or have one for target shooting. Some of these guys I see in wma's kind of scare me,look like the special forces have landed.

Well, my first choice for owning one of these firearms is to own a peice of history. As an Honorably dishcharged veteran of the Army, these firearms hold a significant value in my heart.

Now my second choice boils down to this, Its a firearm, the darn thing better work. I dont want a museum relic, I don't want a non-firing replic, I want the real thing.
So because its the real deal, I would like to take it out of the gun case every once in a while and put some rounds down range. IF that happens to be at the local gun club, or in the woods, or god forbid in defense of my or my families life. I already have home-defense guns so I would likely never pick up this firearm as my first choice, but if the situation comes up, then I would certainly not want to have to think about it when split-seconds count.

The life of these firearms currently consists of sitting in a box covered in some greesy mess in a corner of a warehouse along with hundreds of others just like it.
I want to own this firearm, care for it, protect it, and use it. Not as it was originaly designed and used for mind you, but rather for sport, and the shear nostalga of it all.

Ammunition while it is a deciding factor, the joy and fun of the firearm also needs to be considered. I will likely be the only person firing it for the most part, so I don't need to buy the lighter Carbine model. I think the mobility and high cap mag could be fun. but on the same hand so would the Garand, with its power, and greater range and accuracy.

Big game hunting, well I live in florida as many of us on this forum do. A deer in florida aint much bigger than an overweight greyhound LOL, a momma piggy on the other hand is a pretty tough brute. And well I haven't seen many pronghorns, or mountain goats, or Mullies, or Elks hanging around in Green Swamp, so for the most part I'm stuck shooting at what we have here in the sunshine state as far as wild game is concerned. I doubt very much you can see over 100 yards in most of the WMA's here in Florida so getting out of the power range of the carbine, not very likely, and on a long days hunt might be very welcome to be holding over the 10lb beast that Garand would be like.

Will I ever get the opportunit to hunt outside of Florida? perhaps, if the planets align just right, the money is overflowing the bank account, and Ice is forming down below in heck, well sure, I might get the chance to hunt out of state. When that happens I might just want the power of a 30-06, but instead I would likely buy or borrow a firearm targeted for the game I plan on hunting, rather than relying on a relic from WWII to do the job.

So its still pretty 50-50 over the firearm choice, and I thank you all for your thoughts and opinions. I guess all I need to do now is decide which one is nearer and dearer to my heart and get that one.

BOTH!

HAHA

Peacea all
