I understand you Gloworm,I was mainly commenting on the people who think it's a macho thing to use an assault rifle. Seriously,I wasn't joking about some people I've seen in the past.Other tha that I know very little of them. I bought an enfield a few years ago that was sporterized and didn't really care for it.

Oh I wasnt defending my view from your comment on the whole Assault rifle thing, I really just wanted the group to know the complete reason for me owning one of these firearms.

I would like to see our history preserved, and I feel that needs to be in the hands of red-blooded americans, patriots, veterans, active duty military members, LEO's and others like them, and as such as the majority of those on this group. I dont want any of these rifles getting destroyed by anti-gun lobbiests, or big-brother government watchdogs, or 'the Sky is falling' scaredy-cat extremists. I want them in the hands of people who are ready and willing to protect our rights as citizens of this great country!

That's many of the same reasons I bought my old M91 Mosin/Nagant. Yes, it is a Russian designed rifle, but mine was one of the batch made in 1917 by Remington ( http://www.mosinnagant.net/USSR/US-Mosin-Nagants.asp ). It's a functional, interesting piece of history. Plus it's fun to shoot every now and then!

Will I ever get the opportunit to hunt outside of Florida? perhaps, if the planets align just right, the money is overflowing the bank account, and Ice is forming down below in heck, well sure, I might get the chance to hunt out of state.

I'm kind of curious why it would be difficult for you to hunt out of state? I understand that it my cost a little, but it isn't as expensive as most people think. I've hunted something like 13 states, all unguided hunts, and I'm a long ways from wealthy. Some hunts can be really cheap if you're not afraid to hunt without a guide and do most the work yourself.

For instance, you can get what they call reduced price doe/fawn pronghorn tags in Wyoming for $40 each. And that's for non-residents. You can get 2 tags for that price. All you need to do is pay for the gas to get to Wyoming. There are millions of acres of public ground to camp on. Pronghorn are really plentiful and there is no reason to bother with a guide. Do your own cooking and you're all set. I'd bet a couple of guys from Florida could pitch in together and make that trip for less than $500 each.

In my native Colorado, you can get an over the counter bull elk tag and do much the same thing for less than $1000 each. Check out the posts I made in the exotic game forum. There are a lot of pictures from some hunts in North America that I've taken. With the exception of the bears from Canada, they were all do it yourself types of hunts.

Just food for thought.

Cheers

the garand if I'm not mistaken is a browning design, imo americas finest gun designer, reason enough to pick the garand. according to george patton " the finest weapon in ww-2 ", the m1 on the other hand has an interesting history ( designed/invented by a prisoner " carbine williams " portrayed by Jimmy Stewart in the movie of the same name. good little rifle for jungle close range killing, but definately not the power accuracy or heritage/pedigree of the garand.
