I actully had a funny experience when I was Called to Jury Duty. I tried everything to get out of serving. Not because I didn't want to, but because of my job. Now I feel obligated after my experience.I get there and run into my sisters best friend. Then a few other people that I am acquainted with. The first case juror numbers were picked and yep I am one. So go in and the Judge asks me if I knew anyone in the room. Yes sir! her him and him. ok how do you know them etc etc etc. I explained to him how. he let them all go. I got to stay. When it was down to the last 25 possible jurors he asked me again if I knew anyone. I said not that I know of. When it was all said and done, I was picked for jury duty. By the time the trial was over, I was connected to all of them. Not because of the case, but because of mutual friends. Then on my first day covering Macdill AFB I ran into the defendant. He reconizes me, we talk he asks a lot of questions about the case. I explained how he won, we shook hands and I went back to work. Crazy! It really is a small world.
My last trip up to Marion county courthouse I could not believe the number of school teachers that were there. I sat back listening to their conversations and it was quite interesting. Not all of them were like I would have thought. They discussed kids, policies, other teachers they knew. There was one older black lady that was a retired teacher. She was awesome to listen to - she recalled the days when she was allowed to "put it on their asses" in the classroom. She said it made all the difference compared to today. LOL
