It ain't a contracting job. What, did you expect to walk in as an Sergeant? Did you want to skip basic too?
No. and No.
He wanted to sign me for nothing and he was rushing it all so I wouldn't think.
I'm gonna find my 91fox I want, with as much education I can get.
buddy of mine is on leave till the 7th.
He got in as an E3 PFC with bonuses galore.
now hes an E5 sgt
Is your buddy Active or Guard? Active I'm assuming since he is taking leave and most traditiional guardsmen don't get that unless they are coming off a deployment....they are two totally different animals with totally different numbers and needs. I believe the Florida guard was sitting at close to or just over 100% a few weeks ago. That means no bonuses, no extra incentives, etc.
But from an SFC/ E-7 whose been in 14 years now, 12 of which are active guard or Regular Army, there's NO difference between E-1 and E-3 except a few measley dollars at drill. You aren't going to get any (more) respect from anyone, and you'll progress along at about the same rate because of the time in service requirements to make E-5.
You may think the recruiter is always trying to blow smoke up your ass because everybody thinks that what recruiters do but in reality it's a good time to be a recruiter...they have lots of folks wanting to join. They don't necesarily have to lie to make numbers now a days.....
Good for you man. Try and get the most you can, because once you sign you're in for the long haul.
I'll admit right out I know nothing of military stuff, but it kinda sounds like supply and demand. would enlisting somewhere else, where recruitment is down, make a diff? hate to see ya miss a good thing over something that might work itself out in a short time anyway. gotta climb a ladder from the bottom rung first.
