This will be my first hurricane season in florida. I've been through a couple minor ones before but never with the amount of people around me that I have now. So I was hoping that we could pool our thoughts together and come up with some ideals about what to have when your staying and what to take when your bugging out. Also how much is considered enough or minimal?
I'm starting to stock up on the obvious things like gallon water, canned and dry foods, ammo, and batteries. I'm having problem stocking up on beer as i keep raiding the stash!
As far as lighting should i get kerosene or oil lamps?
Tips on driving routes as i'm guessing 95 will look like a parking lot?
what else?
People make the hurricanes worse than they really are. Not to say they are destructive, because they are. But the pandemonium people get into is what makes it bad. Have plenty of canned goods, water, propane, meds on hand. Also if you have a generator, maybe a couple cans of gas. Freezers don't need to be plugged in for at least 24 hours. Also, freeze milk jugs of water. So when the power goes out, put the frozen jugs in the fridge to keep it colder longer
I've lived here most of my life,I have never prepared for a storm, never bugged out,or really experienced the full effect of one. I am not speaking for the rest of the guys here who live down south just me personally. The worst was when I think Charlie and that other one came thru a few years ago and Elaina in 85. I do have to say that I was pretty impressed with our Gov't, Jeb had the National gaurd rolling the day before. Plenty of ice and mre's on hand,we went without power for 8 days. No other damages thank God.
i have a generator, pretty much just for the freezer, don't want to lose all my meat. keep water around. i keep a few bags of charcoal around also. can cook anything on the grill.
Beer, liquor, ammo, generator, gas, water, cash. Thats all ya need
