I think thats what I said " go with whats right for you". my ultralight bolt in 7mm08 with 1.5x5 scope is easily good for a 200 yd shot, 300 yds if I do my part and have a good rest, but I like to hunt the thick stuff and have never shot a deer over 100 yds, most are 10 -40 yds. the longest shot I ever made was with a 12ga slug and open sights at about 85 yds.I've never shot a 358 but have read up on them several times and for close work I like a larger diameter heavy bullet with a lot of smackdown power like your 358, I use a 375 220 grain winchester when in the nasty stuff and feel shots will be close. the 358 does get alot of velocity for size and weight ( around 2500 fps I believe ) so long shots should not be an issue either, too bad it was discontinued but not an issue if you handload.
For close cover hog hunting as well as deer, my choice on a small caliber that will get the job done is 44 Mag, in lever action or carbine....but just MO
Sorry Nacho,I was replying to swampman. For some reason I thought you posted the question. After I re-read it I found my error.
