Here is a general question that I hope to need help with. Here is the scenario, the first week of bow season your hunting and pile up a nice buck that is still in velvet. How would you go about preserving the horns. I would hate to shoot a good buck in velvet and have the horns dry up and look like crap.

Inject them with formaldehyde
I had looked that up before and before injecting the antlers with formaldehyde you slit the points of the antlers and hang them upside down to drain the blood.

I didn't finish my reply this morning.. To preserve them correctly, you need to get the head in a freezer ASAP. Then get them to someone who does freeze drying taxidermy and have them done that way. That is the best way to do them correctly
