Unless you can time travel, there is no such thing as always or never. Things happen all the time that are thought impossible. Your Doc should know better. What he likely meant was, as long as you are under my care you will be on them, and likely anything else I may feel like prescribing. I'd feel pretty safe to say app 75% +/- of the people that get admitted to a hospital leave with a prescription for a blood pressure med, even though they NEVER had high or low B/P before or after being in the hospital. Just another example of meds being over prescribed. With your previous #'s and family history, should you be on statins for life?, probably. I am and my total chol has never been over 200 and my ratios are great. Whenever a Doc looks at me then my labs, they always think they are looking at someone elses labs. I'm on them for a strong family history of high chol & heart disease.

Like Jewish penicillin, IT COULDN'T HURT, (loosing wt, that is) and not just for the cholesterol issue. NOT exactly true but I'm sure you have heard the saying "you can never be too rich, or too thin". I don't like to commit to anything but a change in #'s like yours in such a short time, I'd dare say it was more than just the meds. Congrats.

I didnt change nothing but get on meds. I had already cut out all red meat, cheese, eggs, and high chol foods. That only brought my numbers higher. I was 240 total before i gave up high chol foods, then went to the no red meat ect and thought i was gonna have a great reading, only for the doc to call and say it was 384!!! Got on meds for 3 months and it was back to where it was at 2 years ago when i was on meds last time. In that 3 months i ate regular and its fixed solely due to the meds.

Sent from my killphone.
