Man i got my labs back and im actually a little scared.
Trig: 348 Normal is <40-149>
LDL: 260 Normal is <0-99>
Total: 384 Normal is <120-199>Man i so changed my diet. No red meat, only water, and cut out all high col foods. Guess its just hereditary. Im on Lipitor Now.
Hope i can bring it down.
Well ive been in meds for 3 months. The doc called and said they had good news. All my levels are normal but can be lower. They said to stay on the meds to bring the cholesterol lower and controll it. I asked them what was my level on the total? (Last time it was 384) they said its down to 140!
So thats good news!,
congrats. 140 total is great, low even. curious about the rest of the #'s & trigs. the ratios tell a better story to me than just a total. hdl (good): to ldl (bad). that is a huge drop. Be sure you really do fast for 10- 12 hours before the test. Sugar was good? It's always good to get a printed copy and save them for your records.
I'm interested to see what my numbers are. I have dropped 30 pounds since July
Blood work & levels are often NOT related to weight. plenty of skinny people have issues with trigs, cholesterol & sugar. Notice how many people living / eating right & getting daily exercise are dropping dead and leaving a very healthy looking corpse, while the obese just keep rolling along? It is entirely possible to turn your #'s around with simple changes that don't involve some type of self depravation and a difficult program. There is very little most Dr's & dieticians agree on, but a few are that no 2 people are the same. & The key to figuring out the best plan of action for YOU is GOOD INFO. Which means keeping a well recorded diary of your intake (portion size, times & responses, did you feel satisfied/energetic/tired, etc.) then building a plan of care FOR YOU based on that info & labs. Having been on both sides of the table the food diary/journal is the 1 thing NOBODY enjoys or seems to do, including me, and I know better. There is NO magic pill or surgery that is a permanent fix. How many of us have lost a significant amount of wt only to have it all come back +10-25% in 1-3 years? without a good plan of care/action you can put in a ton of time & energy and kind of just be spinning your wheels. And yes corny as it sounds support groups with others in the same boat as you do help you stay on track longer and may have better tips & advice than the Md's and Dieticians.
My doc said im always gonna have high cholesterol. Its hereditary. I have to be on pills to control it prob for the rest of my life.
