not so at the wma I hunted, (homosassa during small game season). you were allowed to carry a handgun CONCEALED ONLY and only if you had a ccw permit. and they would say something to you if they could see it.
just read the flyer, are you sure? pistol is a legal method of hunting during small game. you have to carry it concealed? can't find that anywhere on the flyer. heck by fwc and state you are allowed to open carry while participating in a hunting or fishing activity ( bow season being the exception)
SMALL GAME SEASON: November 13 through December 5 and December 25 through January 9. Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Daily quota permit, hunting license, management area permit, migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl). Legal to Hunt - Wild hog, gray squirrel, quail, rabbit, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, beaver, coyote, skunk, nutria and migratory birds in season. Bobcat and otter beginning December 1. Regulations Unique to Small Game Season - In addition to these regulations, all General Area Regulations shall apply. 1. Hunting with bird dogs and dogs with a shoulder height of 15 inches or less is allowed. 2. Hunting wild hog with dogs is prohibited. 3. Hunting with centerfire rifles is prohibited.
For hunting non-migratory game, only shotguns, rifles (rimfire only), pistols, muzzleloading guns, bows, crossbows (during the wild hog, small game and special-opportunity spring turkey seasons, or by permit) or falconry may be used.
straight from the guide for Homasassa WMA
yeah I read that too and also that "ccw permit holders are allowed to carry (concealed) on wma's. guess if you don't have a ccw it's OK to carry open and if you do it's gotta be concealed? all I know is I was told more than once by the gatekeepers to keep it covered up and wasn't about to get on their bad side by arguing over it.
that would fall under the choose your battles carefully catagory which I normaly don't give a rats arse about, but sometime a gatekeeper may have some info of a hot spot I'd like to know about, so keeping it covered for the few minutes at the check in area is no biggie. you guys know I'm not shy about shooting my mouth off.
nacho grande me and a few of my buddies hunt in there all the time with our 44mag. and i know who you are talking about that told you you cant. he also told me that. then told me that he didnt really care. so we just put our guns on when we park our truck.
